Andaman Tour Packages from Chennai

Adventure Andaman is a local tour operator based in the Andaman Islands. We handle the island side of the holiday: hotels, inter-island ferries, sightseeing, local transport and activities, depending on the package you choose.

Travellers from Chennai typically fly into Port Blair. Our ground arrangements begin there, according to the booked itinerary. A “package from Chennai” means the trip is planned for someone starting from Chennai — it does not automatically include Chennai–Port Blair airfare. Unless a quote says otherwise, book your flights separately and share the arrival details with us so day one can be planned around them.

How to Reach Andaman from Chennai

There is no road or rail link from mainland India to the Andaman Islands. From Chennai, the realistic choices are a flight to Port Blair, or — for travellers with more time — a passenger ship. Most holiday itineraries are built around flying in and out of Port Blair.

Chennai to Andaman by Flight

Chennai International Airport (MAA) is one of the mainland airports with air connections to Port Blair. You land at Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ). Some dates have non-stop services; others may involve a connection via another Indian city. Whether a given date is direct or connecting changes with airline schedules, so check the airline or a flight search for your travel date rather than relying on a printed timetable here.

Flying is the practical option for a 4–7 day holiday. It also makes it easier to coordinate hotel check-in and, if needed, the next morning’s ferry to Havelock.

Chennai to Andaman by Ship

Passenger ships have long operated between Chennai and Port Blair under government shipping arrangements. The voyage takes several days, sailings are limited, and cabin availability can be tight in peak months.

A ship makes sense if you have spare days on both sides of the holiday and prefer sea travel. It is a poor fit for a short Andaman package: you would spend more time at sea than on the islands. Confirm current sailings, fares and ticket rules with the official shipping office before you plan around a ship departure. Adventure Andaman’s packages start in Port Blair after you have arrived, however you choose to get there.

Can You Travel from Chennai to Andaman by Train?

No. There is no railway connection from mainland India to the Andaman Islands. A train can only get you as far as a mainland city — including Chennai — after which you still need a flight or a ship to Port Blair.

If you are combining rail and air, travel to Chennai a day early when possible, especially in peak season, so a delayed train does not cause you to miss the Port Blair flight.

Chennai to Port Blair Flights

Treat the Chennai–Port Blair flight as a planning constraint, not as something we can freeze on this page. Airlines, timings and fares change through the year. Use this section to decide how the flight should sit next to your island itinerary.

  • Airports: depart Chennai (MAA), arrive Port Blair (IXZ).
  • Direct vs connecting: a non-stop flight is simpler with children or lots of luggage. A connection can work if it still gets you into Port Blair with enough daylight for airport transfer and hotel check-in.
  • Arrival time matters: an early or midday arrival usually lets you settle in Port Blair the same day. A late-evening arrival often means skipping sightseeing that day and starting properly the next morning.
  • Peak season: October–May, and school holidays, fill up. Book flights once your travel dates are firm, then share the PNR and arrival time so we can align hotels and ferries.
  • First-day itinerary: most packages keep arrival day in Port Blair for a reason. Same-day ferry to Havelock is only practical when you land early enough to clear the airport, reach the jetty, and still meet ferry cut-offs — which we would rather not assume.

We do not sell Chennai–Port Blair air tickets as a standard inclusion. If you want us to review whether your chosen flight sits comfortably with a specific itinerary, send the timings with your enquiry.

What Time Should You Reach Port Blair?

From a ground-operator point of view, the useful question is not “is there a flight?” but “what can we still do after you land?”

Morning and early-afternoon arrivals are the easiest. There is time for the airport pickup, hotel check-in (or luggage drop if the room is not ready), and a light Port Blair half-day if the itinerary includes it.

Late-afternoon arrivals usually still work for a Port Blair stay that night. Sightseeing that day becomes optional rather than guaranteed, and a same-day Havelock ferry is rarely a good idea.

Evening and night arrivals should plan to stay in Port Blair. Hotel check-in, dinner and rest are the day’s job. We then use the next morning for Cellular Jail / local sightseeing or for the Havelock ferry, depending on the package.

Havelock ferries are not a city bus. Seat categories sell out, and operators have reporting times. If your Chennai flight is running late, it is better to keep a Port Blair night as a buffer than to chase a ferry you may miss. Share your flight number when you book — we will say plainly whether day one should stay in Port Blair.

Best Andaman Tour Packages from Chennai

These are existing Adventure Andaman itineraries, not Chennai-only copies. Each card opens the same package page we use for travellers from any city. Choose by nights available and the islands you want to cover; we then fit the itinerary around your Port Blair arrival.

Browse the full list on our Andaman tour packages page if you need a duration or island mix that is not shown here.

Andaman Family Tour Packages from Chennai

Families flying from Chennai should protect the first night in Port Blair. Children travel better after a proper night’s sleep, and a rushed same-day ferry after a morning flight is tiring even when it is technically possible.

Look for itineraries with a mix of easy sightseeing (Cellular Jail, beaches, glass-bottom or snorkel sessions) rather than stacking every water sport into two days. The Andaman family tour packages page lists the full family range; the cards below are a practical starting set. Our guide on planning an Andaman trip with kids is also useful before you lock dates.

Andaman Honeymoon Packages from Chennai

For couples, the constraint is usually time, not islands. A 3-night trip from Chennai works if you accept a tighter Havelock focus. Four or five nights is more comfortable if you want both Havelock and Neil without spending half the holiday in transit.

These packages use the same hotels and ferry legs as our standard honeymoon itineraries. See all options on the Andaman honeymoon packages page, and read the honeymoon trip guide if you are still deciding the pace.

Andaman Group Tour Packages from Chennai

We do not run a fixed weekly departure from Chennai. Groups — friends, extended family, or colleagues — fly in on dates that suit them, and we arrange the Andaman ground movement around those flights.

For groups, book flights in the same arrival window so airport pickups and the first ferry do not split the party. Vehicle type and room pairing are confirmed after we know headcount. See group tour packages for the current group itineraries, or enquire with dates and numbers if you need a custom plan.

Chennai to Andaman Trip Cost

The total cost of a trip from Chennai is two bills, not one.

Air travel cost

Chennai–Port Blair airfare (and any connection) sits outside most of our packages. Fares move with season, how early you book, and whether the flight is non-stop. We do not publish live airfares here because they would be wrong within days. Check the airline for your dates, then add that figure to the land package.

Andaman land package cost

The land package is what Adventure Andaman quotes. It typically covers the island services in the chosen itinerary — hotel nights, inter-island ferry seats where included, airport and sightseeing cabs, and entry tickets or activities listed on that package. The starting prices on the cards below are land-package indications from our live pricing, not an all-in Chennai-to-Andaman holiday price.

What moves the land quote:

  • number of nights
  • hotel category
  • season (peak months cost more for rooms and, often, ferries)
  • number of travellers and room pairing
  • which ferries, cabs and activities are included vs paid on the spot
  • meal plan

Open a package for inclusions and exclusions, or send dates and hotel preference for a written quote. Do not treat any round number you see on a third-party “Chennai to Andaman package” listing as our price.

How Many Days Do You Need for an Andaman Trip from Chennai?

Count island nights, not the calendar days you leave Chennai. A Friday-night flight and a Tuesday-morning return can still be only three nights in Andaman. Match nights in Port Blair / Havelock / Neil to what you actually want to see.

3 nights / 4 days

A short first look: typically Port Blair plus one Havelock night, or a compact Port Blair stay. Fine if leave is tight. You will skip Neil Island and most buffer time for weather or delayed flights.

4 nights / 5 days

The usual minimum for Havelock and Neil without rushing every transfer. Still keep arrival night in Port Blair if you land late from Chennai.

5 nights / 6 days

The most practical first trip from Chennai: Port Blair, Havelock and Neil with enough room for a beach day that is not also a ferry day.

6 nights / 7 days

Adds a buffer and, on some itineraries, a Baratang or extra Port Blair day. Useful for families and anyone who does not want every morning to be a checkout.

What Is Typically Included

Depending on the selected package, Adventure Andaman land arrangements may include hotel stays, airport pickup in Port Blair, sightseeing cabs, inter-island ferry tickets, and selected entry tickets or activities. Exact inclusions and exclusions are listed on each package page — they are not identical across the range.

Assume the following are not included unless the quote says so: Chennai–Port Blair airfare, meals beyond the stated meal plan, personal expenses, and optional water sports you add later.

If you already have flights, send the timings when you enquire so we can confirm whether the first day’s inclusions still make sense.

Why Book the Andaman Portion with a Local Operator?

A mainland travel desk can sell you an itinerary. The parts that actually fail on the ground — a missed ferry, a hotel that cannot check you in after a delayed Chennai flight, a Havelock room shuffle — are handled in Port Blair, Havelock and Neil.

Adventure Andaman operates locally in the islands. We plan hotels, ferries and cabs as one movement, not as three separate bookings you have to reconcile. That is the practical reason to book the land package here rather than collecting hotel and ferry tickets yourself after you land.

We do not have a Chennai office. You plan and pay remotely; the work happens after you arrive at Port Blair. Read more about the team on our about us page, or ask a destination expert before you book flights.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers for travellers starting from Chennai

Fly from Chennai to Port Blair, or take a passenger ship when sailings exist. There is no train or road to the islands. For a typical holiday, flying is the realistic choice; the ship is a multi-day voyage with limited departures.

Chennai–Port Blair is a regular air sector, and non-stop flights operate on many dates. Some dates only have connecting options. Confirm the routing for your travel date on the airline site. We do not publish a live timetable here because it changes.

Usually no. Adventure Andaman packages are land arrangements starting in Port Blair — hotels, ferries, cabs and listed activities. Chennai–Port Blair airfare is separate unless a written quote includes it.

Five nights is the most comfortable first trip if you want Port Blair, Havelock and Neil. Four nights can cover two islands if you accept a tighter pace. Three nights is a short look at Port Blair and Havelock. Count nights in Andaman, not just days away from Chennai.

Not all the way. Trains stop on the mainland. You can take a train to Chennai and then fly (or, less commonly, sail) to Port Blair. There is no railway on this route to the islands.

Yes, when government passenger ships are operating on the Chennai–Port Blair sector. The journey takes several days and sailings are infrequent. Check the official shipping office for the current schedule before you plan a holiday around it.

Add two figures: Chennai–Port Blair airfare for your dates, plus the Andaman land package (hotels, ferries, transport, listed sightseeing). Land-package starting prices are shown on each package card. Airfare is not included in those figures. Season, hotel category and group size change the land quote.

Choose by nights and how much ferry-hopping the family will tolerate. A 5-night family itinerary covering Port Blair, Havelock and Neil is the usual recommendation. Keep the first night in Port Blair if you land late. See the family packages on this page or the main family packages listing.

Couples short on leave often take a 3- or 4-night Havelock-focused plan. If you want both Havelock and Neil without rushing, look at 4 or 5 nights. Open the honeymoon package pages for the exact island nights.

In Port Blair, after you arrive at Veer Savarkar International Airport. Airport pickup, hotel and the rest of day one follow the itinerary you booked.

Lock travel dates first, then either book refundable/changeable flights or send us preferred dates so we can confirm hotel and ferry availability before you pay for non-refundable air tickets. Once flights are booked, share the arrival time so we can say whether day one should stay in Port Blair.
