The Civil Avaiation Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands made an announcement regarding the closure of Port Blair airport for 4 days after every 10 days operational, starting from 18 Oct 2022 to 24 Mar 2023. The closure of airport is due to the schedule maintainace of the runway, the runway is under the process of recarpeting. After the completion of the recarpeting work, flight with higher passenger capacity will be able to land on the runway.
The closure of the runway is a big setback to the tourism industry, which is still trying to recover from the losses suffered due to Covid, but the bright side is that after March 2023, the flight fare may reduce which will expectedly bring more tourists to these islands.
