The three most important tourist bases are:
Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair)
Sri Vijaya Puram is the arrival and departure hub for most visitors. It is also the base for Cellular Jail, Corbyn's Cove, Ross Island/Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island, North Bay and several museums and historical attractions.

Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep)
Neil Island is smaller and quieter than Havelock. Its main attractions include Bharatpur Beach, Laxmanpur Beach and the Natural Bridge. It works particularly well as a one-night stop between Havelock and Sri Vijaya Puram.

What About the Nicobar Islands?
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands may appear as one destination on a map, but the Nicobar group should not be treated as part of a normal tourist itinerary. Access to several areas is restricted and subject to government permissions. Regular leisure itineraries primarily focus on permitted tourist destinations within the Andaman group.
3. Book Your Ferries Before Finalising the Island Itinerary
This is one of the most important things to understand before visiting Andaman: ferries control your island-hopping itinerary.
Travellers commonly move between:
- Sri Vijaya Puram → Havelock Island
- Havelock Island → Neil Island
- Neil Island → Sri Vijaya Puram
- Havelock Island → Sri Vijaya Puram
Private ferry operators include Nautika, Makruzz and Green Ocean. Government ferries also operate on inter-island routes, but availability and booking conditions differ from private operators.
Do not assume that you will automatically get your preferred ferry after booking hotels. During busy travel periods, popular departure timings and ferry classes can fill up.

Local Planning Tip
Avoid keeping a very tight connection between an inter-island ferry and your return flight from Sri Vijaya Puram. Ferry operations can be affected by weather, sea conditions and operational changes.
If your flight timing leaves very little margin, returning to Sri Vijaya Puram the previous day is often the safer itinerary choice.
4. October to May Is the Main Travel Season — But Every Month Is Different
The most popular period to visit Andaman is generally October to May. This period is preferred for sightseeing, beaches and marine activities.

Do not rely only on a generic monthly weather forecast when planning ferry-heavy itineraries. Sea conditions can change, and water activities remain subject to local operating and safety conditions.
5. Do Not Try to Cover Every Attraction in One Trip
Andaman looks compact on a map, but travelling between islands takes time. Trying to visit every beach, island and attraction often makes the holiday more tiring rather than more enjoyable.
For a first visit, we generally prioritise:
- Cellular Jail and selected Sri Vijaya Puram sightseeing
- Radhanagar Beach in Havelock
- Elephant Beach if you want water activities
- Bharatpur and Laxmanpur beaches in Neil Island
- One or two water activities rather than trying everything
Travellers with additional days can then consider Baratang, Ross & Smith, Rangat or other North and Middle Andaman destinations.

Scuba diving, snorkelling, sea walking, parasailing, kayaking and other marine activities are among the main reasons people visit Andaman.
However, activities do not operate simply because you have booked them. Weather, tides, sea conditions and safety decisions can affect operations.

Do You Need to Know Swimming for Scuba Diving?
Beginner introductory scuba-diving experiences are available for many non-swimmers under professional supervision, subject to the activity operator's medical, eligibility and safety requirements.
Never hide a medical condition simply because you do not want to miss an activity. The operator's safety assessment should always take priority.
7. Beach Safety Rules Matter in Andaman
Andaman's beaches may look calm, but sea conditions differ from beach to beach and can change quickly.
Follow lifeguard, police and local authority instructions. Swim only where permitted, respect warning boards and never enter the water at a location where crocodile or other safety warnings are displayed.
- Do not swim in prohibited or clearly unsafe areas.
- Do not ignore warning signs.

8. Mobile Internet, UPI and ATMs Should Not Be Taken for Granted
Connectivity in Andaman has improved significantly, particularly in the main population and tourist centres, but mobile and internet performance can still vary by island, hotel, weather and location.
Do not build your entire trip around having uninterrupted high-speed internet. Connectivity may be weaker at beaches, remote resorts and while travelling between islands.
Should You Carry Cash?
Yes. Cards and UPI are widely useful, but we still recommend carrying a reasonable amount of cash for small purchases, local transport, network outages and places where digital payments are temporarily unavailable.
ATMs are available in the main tourist centres, but carrying some cash before travelling between islands can save unnecessary trouble.

Local transportation in Andaman works differently from many large mainland cities.
Airport transfers, hotel-to-jetty transfers and sightseeing are often easier when planned in advance, especially for families, groups, elderly travellers and visitors carrying luggage.
On Havelock and Neil Island, local transportation options include taxis, auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers, depending on your location and travel style.

A ferry departure at a particular time does not mean you should leave your hotel at that time. You need to account for road transfer, check-in, baggage and boarding formalities.

10. A Good Andaman Trip Is About Planning the Connections
The biggest difference between an enjoyable Andaman holiday and a stressful one is often not the hotel category or number of attractions. It is whether the flights, ferries, hotels, activities and road transfers fit together properly.

- A cheap hotel is not useful if it creates difficult early-morning transfers.
- A good ferry ticket is not useful if it clashes with an activity booking.
- Adding Neil Island is not worthwhile if it turns a four-day holiday into constant travelling.
- A same-day Havelock return may not be worth the risk if your flight leaves shortly afterwards.
