Cellular Jail

Located at Port Blair, stood mute witness to the tortures meted out to the freedom fighters, who were incarcerated in this Jail. The Jail, completed in the year 1906 acquired the name, 'cellular' because it is entirely made up of individual cells for the solitary confinement of the prisoners. It originally was a seven pronged, puce-colored building with central tower acting as its fulcrum and a massive structure comprising honeycomb like corridors. The building was subsequently damaged and presently three out of the seven prongs are intact. The Jail, now is a place of pilgrimage for all freedom loving people, has been declared as a National Memorial.The penal settlement established in Andaman by the British after the First War of Independence in 1857 was the beginning of the agonizing story of freedom fighters in the massive and awful jails at Viper Island followed by the Cellular Jail. The patriots who raised their voice against the British Raj were sent to this Jail, where many perished.

Viper Island a small serene, beautiful island "Viper Island" witnessed the untold sufferings the freedom fighters had to undergo. Dangerous convicts found guilty of violating the rules of the Penal Settlement, were put in fetters and were forced to work with their fetters on in this island. The jail called Viper Chain Gang Jail at Viper island, where prisoners deported from the mainland during British Regime.

Ross Island

Ross Island

Ross Island is the erstwhile capital for the most of Andaman Islands from 1858 until 1941. Ross Island was also the base for the British Administrator of the penal colony in Port Blair.In 1941, the Japanese converted the site into POW camp, and built war installations, remnants of which can still be seen. It now lies deserted, and the few signs of its colonial glory, such as the Chief Commissioner's house and the Anglican church, are dilapidated and overgrown.

Havelock Island

An independent Island with a wide beach (Radha Nagar Beach) recorded the seventh best beach in Asia. This island is about 38 Kms from Port Blair, that's provides idyllic resort in the lap of virgin beach and unpolluted environment. Camping facility is available on RadhaNagar Beach,at the western tip of the island,where dolphins and turtles can be spotted from the long stretches of white sand.

Red Skin Island

It is a part of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, it has a nice beach and offers spectacular view of corals, fishes and marine life. It is an ideal place for snorkeling , sea bathing and basking on the sun kissed beach.

Jolly Buoy Island

An island in in the group of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, with bright sand breathtaking underwater view of coral and marine life. It is an ideal place for picnic, snorkeling, sea bathing and basking in the sun.

Baratang Island

It is around 120 Kms far from Port Blair. This island is rich with golden beaches, volcano & caves. The roadways journey for Baratang island is passing through beautiful jungle and connected with vehicle ferries. Lime Stone cave is around 8 Kms from Baratang Jetty via boats. This natural growing caves are made up of lime stone surrounding beautiful green forest. The boat passes through beautiful creek full of mangroves, it is great life time experience for tourists.The active Mud Volcano(found only in Andamans in the country) on the way is also a terrific sight for the tourists. This volcano is active through out the year.Baratang holds the natures best treasures gifted to these islands.

Mayabunder

It is about 240 Kms by road and 136Kms by sea from Port Blair which provides perfect holidays in an unpolluted environment with a rare and excellent scenic beautyand good beaches. The Karmatang beach at Mayabunder is also a nesting ground of turtles and it is perfect picnic/holiday spot.

Diglipur

It is about 375Kms from Port Blair and a rare experience of sea sun and fun for eco-friendly tourists.Kalipur, a sandy beach is developed as a tourist complex. The twin islands (Ross & Smith) at Diglipur is connected with sand and is gorgeous spot for incoming tourists. And nearby the Saddle Peak (732mtrs) is the highest peak in Andamans.Kalpang, the only river of Andamans flows from here on which the first hydro-electric project of the islands is coming up.

Neil Islands

Neil Island is one of the beautiful island among the Andaman Group of Islands . This island is situated 45 Kms far from Port Blair city which is duly connected by boat. The island's lush green forest and sandy beaches provides an ideal holiday destination for eco-friendly tourists . The sea here is shallow and full of colourful corals.

Corbyn's Cove Beach

Just 07 Kms from the city the most picturesque sea-beaches called Carbyn's Cove. This beautiful beach is ideal for sea bathing and sun-basking with a facilities of fresh water bathing Room and changing Rooms.

North Bay (Coral Island)

North Bay (Coral Island) is accessable from Port Blair via ferry. The treasures of these coral islands are unforgettable. Coral island with white sand beaches and surrounded by the pristine beauty of Nature. The sea has gifted this island with all the splendor to attract any sea loving human. The Coral reefs, though damaged, are gorgeously decorated by nature to stun the visitor. The exquisite marine life and aquatic ecology offer some of the best snorkeling site for visitors.

Mount Harriet

It is the highest peak in the South Andamans (365 metres high). One can trek up to Madhuban through a nature trail and can find rare endemic birds, animals and butterflies. The scene of this peak is also printed on the backside of Rs.20. During British Raj, this highest peak was established as the summer headquarters of the Chief Commissioner. This place is an ideal for a nice and a fascinating over view of the outer islands and the sea.

Chatham Saw Mill

This Saw Mill is one of the largest and oldest Saw Mill in Asia, built on a tiny island, is connected to Port Blair by a bridge. It is a store-house of timber like Padauk, Gurjan, Marble, Satin Wood, etc. This Mill was built by the British Govt. in 1883. This island has the second largest wharf of these islands, where Island - mainland ships can berth.

Anthropological Museum

The Anthropological Museum at Port Blair presents culture of Andaman Tribes.It was started in 1975-1976, the museum is an enthographic museum.It illustrates the four Negrito Tribes of the Andamans, viz.., the Jarawas, Sentinelese, Great Andamanese and the Onges and two Mongoloid tribes of the Nicobar viz...,the Nicobarese and the Shompens. One can view the tools, photographs and models of weapons of the aborigines tribes of Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Andaman Water Sports Cpmplex

This unique complex offers all possible aqua-sport facilities like Water-skiing, Sail boats, Windsurfing, Speed Boats etc., and safe water sports like Paddle Boats, Row Boats etc. There is a sea water swimming pool and a change room. There is also a Memorial for the Battle of Aberdeen fought between Britishers and Andamanee aboriginals in 1859. Nearby is anAmusement Park with Rollercoaster, Pleasure rides etc. and a children Traffic Park is adjacent to it.

Aquarium

The aquarium or fisheries museum, near the Andaman Water Sports Complex, exhibits more than 300 marine species peculiar to the islands and those found in the Indo-Pacific and the Bay of Bengal.

Chidiya Tapu

Chidiya Tapu or Bird Island is a tiny village on the southern most tip of South Andaman, about 25km from Port Blair. Its lush green mangroves and sandy beaches make a picturesque site.The forest guest house situated on the top of a hillock provides a fabulous view of islolated islands, submerged corals and the breath-taking sunset.

Samudrika (Naval Marine Museum)

The museum has a good collection of shells, corals, fishes and a few species of colourful fishes found in these islands. It is runned by the Indian Navy and is located near Andaman Teal House at Port Blair.
